Research into breast cancer has been far-reaching to include all the different things that could potentially affect the cancer treatment sphere. According to a recent study, some food types can be counteractive to breast cancer treatment. These food items have been found to contain compounds that either inhibit or limit the effectiveness of therapy. The recent research has shown the following results.
Some common nuts and cereals are bad for cancer therapy
Cereals and nuts including lentils, soybeans, and most common nuts often come with compounds that have properties similar to estrogen. Since cancer therapy usually involves the obstruction of estrogen as well as hormone therapy, such foods only add more unintended effects and reduce the effectiveness of therapy.
Studies have recently been done on women who had breast cancer and the results have shown lack of progress in those women who consumed these foods. The compounds found in these foods are not easily biodegradable. They can thus stay in the body for a long time and contribute to poor results for cancer patients. Drugs like Letrozole become particularly almost ineffective when the body is producing too much estrogen.
Alternative diet plans are best to preserve the effectiveness of therapy
Since common breast cancer drugs are still heavily dependent on blocking hormones, the recent research has concluded that foods that might lead to the production of estrogen and other hormones should be avoided by patients. The counter-productive compounds that have been found in cereals and nuts include genistein and zearalenone. Food items containing these compounds include barley, beans, corn and a few other grains.
Hormone therapy has for a long time been proven to substantially reduce the spread of cancer cells. Over the last few years, advancements in hormone therapy have enabled more women to beat breast cancer. There are already several cancer drugs that are specifically made to block hormones like estrogen. While these drugs are definitely effective, they still highly depend on the levels of estrogen present in the body. High levels of estrogen can reduce or completely hamper the effectiveness of these drugs. By choosing alternative diets, however, it has now been established that cancer patients will experience more productive therapy and overall treatment.
